Freeman specializes in helpingwomen who have had trouble getting pregnant conceive, usually throughartificial insemination techniques or transplanting donated eggs intohis patients. Over the course of several weeks, Freeman inseminatesnine women from different walks of life, ranging from middle-aged butnewly married Lottie (Andie MacDowell) and a lesbian whose reproductiveclock is ticking, Elsa (Donna DErrico) to Frances (Geraldine Chaplin),an aging socialite who needs a son to inherit her husbands fortune andsassy, outspoken Salome (Jennifer Tilly).
